Gun Violence Prevention Advocates Endorse Dave Min for Congress
IRVINE, CA — Today, NeverAgainCA announced its endorsement of Dave Min for Congress, citing Min’s strong legislative record on gun violence in the California State Senate. Senator Min worked closely with NeverAgainCA on his 2021 bill to end gun shows at the Orange County fairgrounds and on his subsequent 2022 bill which expanded the scope of the ban to all public property in the state. This is the first endorsement from a major gun violence prevention group in the race, and comes on the heels of last week’s overwhelming vote for the California Democratic Party’s endorsement for Senator Min.
"When it comes to ending gun violence, Dave Min has been our champion for years--not only with his words but with his actions. Senator Min doesn’t make promises he doesn’t intend to keep,” said Rose Ann Sharp, founder of NeverAgain CA. “He told us he would work to end the sale of firearms, ammunition and ghost guns at the Orange County Fairground. In his first year in the CA Senate, he did just that. In his second year, he took action to protect all Californians and passed legislation banning the sale of firearms, ammunition and ghost guns on all California fairgrounds and state-owned properties. He has continued to push for a myriad of thoughtful gun violence prevention legislation since that time. Dave is a remarkably effective legislator, and a man of integrity who does what he says he’ll do. Never Again CA is excited to continue our partnership with Dave Min when he is elected to represent CA-47 in Congress."
NeverAgain formed in the aftermath of 2018’s Parkland shooting. Their members and activists have been an essential voice in the gun violence prevention space, and regularly appear at protests, town halls, city council meetings, and at the state house.
As a father to school-aged children, Min has made gun violence prevention a major focus of his tenure in the State Senate, and plans to continue prioritizing the issue in US Congress. He has authored a number of other key gun violence prevention bills in the State Senate, and has consistently earned an ‘F’ rating from the National Rifle Association.
After impressive fundraising hauls in the first three quarters of this year, Dave Min has consolidated support behind him as he has become the clear Democratic consensus candidate to succeed Katie Porter. In addition to the Democratic Party’s endorsement, he is also supported by Congresswoman Porter and a broad and diverse coalition of over 150 local, state, and federal leaders. He enjoys broad grassroots support, with over 1000 volunteers signed up to knock on doors for his campaign (many of whom have volunteered with Min’s prior campaigns), and is the candidate of Labor, with the official endorsement of the AFL-CIO’s Orange County Labor Federation, and early endorsements from Teachers, School Employees, Police Officers, SEIU, and many others.
