ICYMI: CA47 “Scott Baugh Bankrolled By Right-Wing Advocate For Biblical Law”

IRVINE, CA —Today, following the American Independent article exposing CA47 MAGA Republican Congressional candidate Republican Scott Baugh’s, longstanding ties to Howard F. Ahmanson Jr., a far-right megadonor who advocates for the imposition of 'biblical law,' and has bankrolled multiple campaigns for Baugh, State Senator Dave Min issued the following statement emphasizing the dangers of electing someone associated with such extreme ideologies.

"Scott Baugh has repeatedly demonstrated that he is too radical to represent Orange County. Any candidate who stands out there pushing for fringe agendas does not deserve to represent the people of Orange County. The fact that Scott Baugh is so closely aligned with a conservative billionaire who openly advocates for the imposition of ‘strict Biblical law’ is not just concerning, it's a glaring reflection of his values and a stark warning of the MAGA extremism he intends to bring to Congress,” said State Senator Dave Min.

The article breaks on the heels of news stories covering Scott Baugh’s un-patriotic and extreme remarks to the International Christian Ambassadors Association, that “wokism” is more dangerous to the United States than 9/11.

A recent article in American Independent reported on Scott Baugh’s ties to Howard F. Ahmanson Jr., a right-wing mega donor and longtime advocate for strict biblical law, who has been a top donor throughout Baugh’s political career. The story follows recent reporting by  HuffPost in which Scott Baugh was quoted as saying that “wokism” is more dangerous to California and the United States than 9/11 and previous world wars.

From the American Independent:

“Over the years, Ahmanson Jr. has used his funds to support conservative politicians and Christian organizations. He was a top donor to the group behind California’s unconstitutional Proposition 8, a 2008 ballot initiative that took away the right of same-sex couples to marry, and backed CareNet, which operates anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers infamous for misleading patients about the procedure.

“Ahmanson spent decades donating to and serving on the board of the Chalcedon Foundation, a tax-exempt organization founded by the late Rousas John Rushdoony that asserts “all things are to be ‘reconstructed’ according to God’s revealed will in Scripture.” Rushdoony urged laws based on “faith, not reason,” including death by stoning for gay and lesbian people and others as laid out in the Book of Leviticus.”
