CALIFORNIA DEMOCRATIC PARTY ENDORSES DAVE MIN
IRVINE, CA — On Sunday, the California Democratic Party ratified its endorsement of Dave Min for Congress in California’s 47th District. State Senator Min was placed on the consent calendar for the endorsement nearly a month ago, having won 72% of the pre-endorsement vote, winning over a broad coalition of Orange County activists, volunteers, and elected officials. Min will be the only candidate endorsed by the Democratic Party in both the March 2024 primary and this cycle’s general election.
“I am so grateful to the Orange County Democrats who put their faith in me,” said Sen. Dave Min. “Our grassroots support has been the foundation of this campaign, and I’m so honored to be the Democratic Party’s nominee. I look forward to working closely with the Party and our Democratic Clubs to keep this seat Blue, not just in 2024, but for many years to come.”
CADEM’s stated mission is the defense and promotion of the rights, opportunities, and safety of all Californians. They highlight the importance of education, healthcare access, livable wages and union representation, bodily autonomy, and environmental protection–values that Dave Min has championed throughout his entire career.
This is Min’s second endorsement from the California Democratic Party, the first coming in 2018 when he ran for a previous version of CA-45. Notably, that endorsement was achieved by a floor vote, in a crowded field, on the last day of the convention–not the higher 70% margin, achieved nearly a month ago, in a contest between just two contenders: the party’s chosen candidate and a wealthy outsider attempting to buy the seat.
“It’s hard to overstate the importance of this vote, and its implications on the state of the race,” said Amelia Matier, spokesperson for Dave Min for Congress. “Activists, electeds, organized labor, advocacy groups–and now, the Democratic Party–know that Dave Min is the only candidate that will take on– and defeat– Scott Baugh and his extreme MAGA positions.”
The California Democratic Party is a welcome addition to a large and diverse coalition supporting Min, who launched his campaign for CA-47 in January with the support of incumbent Congresswoman Katie Porter, and announced his campaign’s early endorsement by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the California Federation of Teachers. Over the course of this year, Senator Min has built a coalition of support that includes over 125 local, state, and federal officials, including California Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Attorney General Rob Bonta, and three other California statewide elected officials, AAPI Victory Fund, Asian American Action Fund, the Asian American and Pacific Islander Congressional Caucus’s ASPIRE PAC, which represents 21 members of Congress, and many others. California’s 47th is an open Congressional District in Orange County that includes the Cities of Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Newport Beach, and Seal Beach, and portions of Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, and Laguna Woods. Incumbent Katie Porter is vacating the seat to run for U.S. Senate. In 2022, Porter defeated former Assemblymember Republican Scott Baugh by 3.44% in this “toss-up” district. State Senator Dave Min currently represents over 80% of Congressional District 47 in Sacramento. In 2020, Min received over 158,000 votes within CA-47, defeating incumbent John Moorlach by 5.15% in this area. 19% of the registered voters in CA-47 are of Asian and Pacific Islander descent, including one of the largest Korean-American populations in the country.
