LGBTQ+ Advocates Endorse Dave Min
IRVINE, CA — Today, the nation's largest statewide LGBTQ+ equality and civil rights advocacy group is endorsing Dave Min for California's 47th Congressional District. With a tenure in the State Senate marked by thoughtful allyship, Dave Min has been a longtime champion for LGBTQ+ issues. He has stood loudly against LGBTQ+ hate and hate of all kinds, having hosted over 200 anti-hate events, and was proud to stand with the community in Huntington Beach this year when the city council banned the LGBTQ+ Pride Flag from city property. The announcement comes days before Sen. Min is slated to be endorsed by the California Democratic Party, having won a commanding 72% of the early vote last month.
"Equality California proudly endorses Dave Min for Congress, recognizing his unwavering commitment to LGBTQ+ rights and social justice, said Jorge Reyes Salinas, communications director for Equality California. “In a time marked by divisive policies and targeted attacks on marginalized communities, Dave Min stands out as a dedicated ally. His career reflects a consistent effort to ensure that every individual, regardless of their background, sexual orientation, or gender identity, can live without discrimination and enjoy the full rights they deserve. We know Dave Min will be a champion for LGBTQ+ equality in Congress, and we look forward to working together to create a more inclusive, diverse, and just society for all."
Equality California is the largest statewide LGBTQ+ advocacy organization in the country, representing over 900,000 members. Their stated mission is to bring the voices of LGBTQ+ people and allies to institutions of power in California and across the United States, to strive to create a world that is healthy, just, and fully equal for all LGBTQ+ people, and to advance civil rights and social justice by inspiring, advocating, and mobilizing through an inclusive movement that works tirelessly on behalf of those we serve.
"I'm humbled by the endorsement from Equality California, an organization at the forefront of the battle for LGBTQ+ rights and social justice,” said State Senator Dave Min. “In a time when too many extremists are trying to target our marginalized communities with divisive and hateful policies, Equality CA has stood as a beacon for progress, advocating for inclusion, diversity, and a more just society. I’ve been proud to stand as an ally of our LGBTQ+ community throughout my career, fighting to ensure that every individual, regardless of their background, sexual orientation, or gender identity, can live free from discrimination and with the full rights they deserve. I’m grateful to Equality California for their trust in me, and look forward to continuing to work closely with this amazing organization.”
Equality California is a welcome addition to a large and diverse coalition supporting Min, who launched his campaign for CA-47 in January with the support of incumbent Congresswoman Katie Porter, and announced his campaign’s early endorsement by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the California Federation of Teachers. Over the course of this year, Senator Min has built a coalition of support that includes over 125 local, state, and federal officials, including California Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Attorney General Rob Bonta, and three other California statewide elected officials, AAPI Victory Fund, Asian American Action Fund, the Asian American and Pacific Islander Congressional Caucus’s ASPIRE PAC, which represents 21 members of Congress, and many others.
