The Korean American Democratic Committee Backs Min

IRVINE, CA — The Korean American Democratic Committee is throwing their weight behind Dave Min for California’s 47th Congressional District. Min is the only Korean American in the California State Senate, and–with Rep. Andy Kim running for US Senate–would be one of two Democratic Korean Americans in the US House. Min is widely seen as the AAPI community’s best pick up opportunity of the 2024 cycle, with AAPI Victory Fund and ASPIRE PAC having made early endorsements.

"The Korean American Democratic Committee is pleased to offer our endorsement to State Senator Dave Min," said the KADC Endorsement Board. "As the son of Korean immigrants, Dave has spent his career fighting to preserve the American Dream that brought so many families to this country. His advocacy for AAPI communities, and the Korean American community specifically, is crucially important, and his candidacy is an opportunity to better represent the Korean American community in Washington. We are thrilled to join his broad coalition of support."

Since its inception in 1992, KADC has mobilized the Korean American community to vote and participate in the local, state and federal electoral process. Their stated mission is to promote the political empowerment of the Korean-American community through advocacy, education, and civic participation in the spirit of Democratic Party principles.

This endorsement builds on Senator Min’s incredible momentum in his campaign to keep this seat Blue. Last week, Min received the coveted endorsement of the Los Angeles Times. He is also endorsed by outgoing Rep. Katie Porter, as well as the California Democratic Party, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the National Education Association, the American Federation of Teachers, and over 150 local, state, and federal officials. Min is the unanimous choice of organized labor in this race, as he is the only candidate to receive support from national, statewide, and local unions, and received the backing of the California Labor Federation. California’s 47th is an open Congressional District in Orange County that includes the Cities of Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Newport Beach, and Seal Beach, and portions of Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, and Laguna Woods. Incumbent Katie Porter is vacating the seat to run for U.S. Senate. In 2022, Porter defeated former Assemblymember Republican Scott Baugh by 3.44% in this “toss-up” district. State Senator Dave Min currently represents over 80% of Congressional District 47 in Sacramento. In 2020, Min received over 158,000 votes within CA-47, defeating incumbent John Moorlach by 5.15% in this area. 19% of the registered voters in CA-47 are of Asian and Pacific Islander descent, including one of the largest Korean-American populations in the country.
