NRDC Action Fund Endorses Dave Min for Congress
IRVINE, CA — Today, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) Action Fund endorsed Dave Min for Congress in California’s 47th Congressional District, joining a long list of major environmental groups such as the Sierra Club, California Environmental Voters, and the Center for Biological Diversity backing his campaign. State Senator Min, chair of the Natural Resources and Water Committee, has consistently demonstrated leadership on environmental issues, earning him broad support from the environmental community. The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a leading environmental advocacy group that combines grassroots action with legal expertise to safeguard the earth and its inhabitants. With over 3 million members and a team of nearly 700 professionals, the NRDC is at the forefront of efforts to address the climate crisis, preserve natural habitats, and promote environmental justice.
“Climate change is the defining issue of our time,” said Dave Min. “We need leaders in Congress who will fight for the seismic and unilateral changes needed to prevent the worst effects of the climate crisis that we know are coming, and which have already begun. In California, I’ve been an outspoken and effective leader on decarbonization and biodiversity issues. As your congressman, I will advocate tirelessly for policies that ensure a sustainable future for our children and grandchildren.”
Unlike his general election opponent Scott Baugh, who has consistently failed to prioritize environmental protection and has ties to special interests that profit from fossil fuel extraction, Dave has consistently put the interests of Orange County families and our planet first. While serving in the State Senate, Baugh voted against Assembly Bill 1280, which would have required that any new pumping operation off the California coast use pipelines rather than tankers to reduce the risk of a major spill. If passed, AB 1280 could have prevented a 2021 disaster where 25,000 pounds of crude oil leaked into the ocean off Huntington Beach when two tanker ship anchors hit an offshore pipeline. The bill was strongly opposed by the oil industry. With California facing increasingly severe impacts of climate change, including wildfires, droughts, and rising sea levels, the choice in this election is clear: Dave is the climate champion that CA-47 needs in Congress.
Min is not only the unanimous choice of environmental groups, he has assembled an impressive coalition of support. In addition to being on the DCCC’s Red to Blue List of priority challengers for the House, Senator Min is endorsed by outgoing Rep. Katie Porter, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and over 50 local elected officials. He is also the consensus choice of Teachers, Police, Firefighters, and Organized Labor, with major endorsements including the National Education Association, the American Federation of Teachers, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Police Officers Research Association of California, the International Association of Firefighters, SEIU, AFSCME, Teamsters, AFL-CIO, and the California Labor Federation. In 2020, Min received over 158,000 votes within CA-47, defeating incumbent John Moorlach by 5.15% in this area. 19% of the registered voters in CA-47 are of Asian and Pacific Islander descent, including one of the largest Korean-American populations in the country.
