MAGA Extremist Scott Baugh Silent on Longtime Ally Andrew Do’s Felony Indictment in Widening Republican Bribery and Corruption Scandal
IRVINE, CA — Today, disgraced Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do has agreed to plead guilty to federal felony charges and immediately resign his position after conspiring to steal millions of dollars meant to feed needy seniors — playing a central role in one of the largest corruption and bribery scandals in Orange County’s history. Yet MAGA Republican Congressional candidate Scott Baugh, Do’s close political ally and politician with his own history of corruption, remains silent. Meanwhile, State Senator Dave Min continues to lead the fight for accountability with the passage of his Restoring Public Trust Act (SB 1111), a bill he authored to address exactly this kind of misconduct. Signed into law by Governor Newsom, the bill requires local officials to disclose conflicts of interest involving family members and to abstain from voting on related contracts.
"Scott Baugh has been at the center of shady dealings for years, and he himself was indicted for 22 counts of campaign finance fraud and bribery earlier in his career, so it is no surprise that his crony Andrew Do is involved in a similar abuse of his office. Baugh’s silence in the face of this scandal is telling. Orange County deserves leaders who will root out corruption, not enable it.” said State Senator and Democratic Nominee for CA-47 Dave Min. “I’m proud to have passed legislation that tackles this very issue, and as your next Congressman, I’ll continue to fight for clean, honest government.”
Baugh has dragged Orange County voters through the mud with him for decades, leaving behind a trail of corruption and scandal, including:
Changing voter registrations without consent: As Chair of the Orange County Republican Party, Baugh was at the center of a scandal where as many as 600 Orange County residents had their voter registrations changed to Republican without their knowledge– and led to 12 arrests.
Indicted on more than 20 criminal charges: In 1996, Baugh was indicted on more than 20 criminal charges, including four felonies, for violating campaign finance laws and persuading someone to commit perjury. He admitted to committing nine violations of the California Political Reform Act and was forced to pay tens of thousands of dollars in fines.
Worked to disenfranchise voters: Baugh was a founding chairman of an organization that spread voter disinformation and attempted to disenfranchise California voters—long before the 2020 election.
