Leading Voting Rights Advocates Endorse Dave Min

IRVINE, CA — Defend the Vote, an organization dedicated to preserving our democracy through ensuring voting access, education and protection, is announcing their support of State Senator Dave Min, the Democratic nominee for California’s 47th Congressional District. With national Republicans calling the security of our election system into question, there has never been a more important time to elect pro-democracy candidates like Dave Min, who will work not only to protect our right to vote, but to expand it.

“The only way to ensure that our leaders are accountable to the people instead of corporations and billionaires is to elect candidates who will protect the freedom to vote and the rule of law and get dark money out of the system,” DTV Executive Director Brian Lemek said. “In Congress, Dave will defend against extremism and threats to democracy. We look forward to working with him to pass historic reforms like the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.”

State Senator Dave Min has spent his career in public service, and spent time as an election protection officer in rural Mississippi. Sen. Min has also authored and introduced legislation in Sacramento that would prevent unlawful voter ID requirements being imposed by cities like Huntington Beach, CA.

“I’ve spent my career upholding the rule of law. I’ve been outspoken in fighting back against voter restrictions and have introduced legislation to crack down on anti-democratic efforts,” Min said. “When I’m elected to Congress, I’ll work with Defend The Vote to continue fighting for democracy and what’s right.

The differences between Min and his opponent–MAGA Scott Baugh–could not be starker. While Scott Baugh began his career as a corrupt State Assemblymember, engaging in campaign finance fraud, perjury, and obstruction of justice, which led to his being indicted for 22 criminal charges (including 4 felony counts), Dave Min began his career cracking down on corporate fraud and corruption as an SEC prosecutor. While Baugh has embraced whackjob conspiracy theories associated with white nationalism, stating that “wokeness” was a more dangerous threat to America’s security than 9/11 or World War II, Min has repeatedly celebrated diversity and stood up against hate in Orange County. And while Baugh has made clear that he would support a total abortion ban, without exceptions, even in the case of rape, incest, or danger to a woman’s life, Min has earned a 100% rating from Planned Parenthood and authored eight leading domestic violence bills into law.

State Senator Dave Min currently represents over 80% of Congressional District 47 in Sacramento. In 2020, Min received over 158,000 votes within CA-47, defeating incumbent John Moorlach by 5.15% in this area. 19% of the registered voters in CA-47 are of Asian and Pacific Islander descent, including one of the largest Korean-American populations in the country.
