Leading Gun Safety Advocates Agree: Dave Min is Right for Orange County
IRVINE, CA — Today, Brady PAC–leading gun violence prevention advocates–endorse Dave Min for Congress in California’s 47th Congressional District. Since before his time in the State Senate, Dave Min has centered gun violence as a top issue of his political career, campaigning in 2020 on a promise to end gun sales on the Orange County Fairgrounds. Successful in doing so during his first year in office, Sen. Min returned to Sacramento the next year, and ended gun sales on all state-owned property. He has consistently fought for greater restrictions on assault rifle ownership and ammunition sales, as well as greater accountability and safety protocols for gun owners. Min’s MAGA opponent Scott Baugh, by contrast, solicited funds from the NRA in a fruitless attempt to avoid an embarrassing fundraising quarter.
“Dave Min is a true champion for gun safety,” said Ashley Lantz, executive director of Brady PAC. “During his tenure in the State Senate, Dave has not only voted 100 percent for gun safety measures, he has authored key groundbreaking legislation around gun storage, gun dealer oversight and safety protocols, and ending gun shows on state property. He’s ready to take that fight to Washington, to ensure a safer future for our children and grandchildren.”
Formed leading up to the 2018 midterm elections, Brady PAC was created to serve as a counterweight to “dark money” Super PACs created by the gun industry lobby. It upholds the policy ideals that have been championed by its sister organization, Brady — one of the nation’s oldest gun violence prevention grassroots advocacy organizations. Brady PAC supports candidates running for local, state, and federal office who support universal background checks, reenacting the assault weapons ban, extreme risk protection orders, and instituting other common-sense gun violence prevention legislation that will make our homes, schools, and communities safer.
The differences between Min and Baugh could not be starker. While Scott Baugh began his career as a corrupt State Assemblymember, engaging in campaign finance fraud, perjury, and obstruction of justice, which led to his being indicted for 22 criminal charges (including 4 felony counts), Dave Min began his career cracking down on corporate fraud and corruption as an SEC prosecutor. While Baugh has embraced whackjob conspiracy theories associated with white nationalism, stating that “wokeness” was a more dangerous threat to America’s security than 9/11 or World War II, Min has repeatedly celebrated diversity and stood up against hate in Orange County. And while Baugh has made clear that he would support a total abortion ban, without exceptions, even in the case of rape, incest, or danger to a woman’s life, Min has earned a 100% rating from Planned Parenthood and authored eight leading domestic violence bills into law.
