California Teachers Association & National Education Association Endorse Dave Min in CA-47

IRVINE, CA — Today, Dave Min is announcing the support of the nation’s largest labor union, the National Education Association, as well as their state-affiliate, the California Teachers Association, in his campaign for Congressional District 47. This marks a clean sweep for State Senator Min in backing from public educators, as he has received sole endorsements from all of the major organizations representing teachers, school staff, and the other workers who keep our public schools running. Earlier this year, he announced the endorsements of the American Federation of Teachers, the other major national teachers union, and also from the California School Employees Association, which represents school staff.

“Dave Min has been a long time champion of public education,” said California Teachers Association President David Goldberg. “A product of California public schools himself, and the only candidate in this race who sends his kids to public schools, Dave understands the crucial role that good public education plays in providing the basic foundations for the American Dream. Dave has been an incredible advocate for students, teachers, and school staff in his role as State Senator, and we are thrilled to continue our relationship with Dave Min in Washington, DC.”

NEA is the largest labor union in the United States, with affiliate organizations in every state and in more than 14,000 communities across the United States. They bring the expertise, drive, and dedication of 3 million educators and allies to advancing justice and excellence in public education. Founded in 1863, CTA represents 310,000 members who support and nurture students in classrooms every day, preparing them to be the leaders of tomorrow. CTA is the largest statewide affiliate of the National Education Association.

This announcement continues State Senator Dave Min’s incredible momentum, as he has racked up a slew of major endorsements in the past few months, including from the California Democratic Party, Equality CA, the Southern California Armenian Democrats, NeverAgain CA, AFT, PORAC, UFCW, IBEW, OCEA, NUHW, the Laborers, the Carpenters, and a host of others. Min is the unanimous choice of organized labor in this race, as he is the only candidate to receive support from national, statewide, and local unions. Min received early endorsements from Rep. Katie Porter, the outgoing incumbent, as well as from Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the California Federation of Teachers, and over 150 local, state, and federal officials. California’s 47th is an open Congressional District in Orange County that includes the Cities of Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Newport Beach, and Seal Beach, and portions of Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, and Laguna Woods. Incumbent Katie Porter is vacating the seat to run for U.S. Senate. In 2022, Porter defeated former Assemblymember Republican Scott Baugh by 3.44% in this “toss-up” district. State Senator Dave Min currently represents over 80% of Congressional District 47 in Sacramento. In 2020, Min received over 158,000 votes within CA-47, defeating incumbent John Moorlach by 5.15% in this area. 19% of the registered voters in CA-47 are of Asian and Pacific Islander descent, including one of the largest Korean-American populations in the country.
