OVERVIEW

Scott Baugh’s dangerous views put our freedoms at risk. He’s a law-breaking MAGA Republican indicted for more than 20 criminal charges including 4 felonies, who repeatedly sides with special interests over the interests of Orange County residents.

SUMMARY

Voters in the Los Angeles Media Market, and especially AAPI voters registered without a party preference, voters registered without a party preference under 45, and Latinos need to see ads on broadcast TV, streaming, and digital district-wide and read mail, that:

  • Scott Baugh supports a complete ban on abortion with no exceptions, including for rape or incest or to save a woman’s life. Baugh voted twice to force doctors to intimidate and harass women with unnecessary non-medical information about abortions. Baugh is closely aligned with groups that believe 10-year-old rape victims should be forced to give birth. Baugh even supported punishing doctors and gave tens of thousands of dollars to politicians who backed a bill to restrict access to a woman’s use of IVF treatments to help get pregnant. Baugh would put the government, not doctors, in charge of women’s medical decisions.

  • Baugh cashed in on his career in elected office to enrich himself and his corporate special interest friends. He was indicted on 22 criminal charges. And, as a result of his corruption, he ultimately admitted to committing nine civil violations and was forced to pay tens of thousands of dollars in penalties. While he was in the Assembly, he received more money from the tobacco lobby than any other legislator and voted against legislation meant to crack down on financial crimes, trying to help big corporations and their wealthy CEOs get away with consumer fraud. Baugh-affiliated companies took nearly $2 million in federal pandemic relief and never returned this money to taxpayers.

AAPI voters need to see ads on streaming and digital district-wide and read mail, specifically about:

  • Scott Baugh supports Donald Trump, who plans to create a deportation force that will remove undocumented immigrants from their homes including those who have lived in the country for over a decade. Baugh voted against requiring hate crimes against Asian Americans and incidents in schools to be reported. Baugh supported the extortion and intimidation of immigrants by voting against rules to protect immigrants from being forced to work in dangerous, illegal situations.

Latino voters need to see ads on streaming and digital district-wide and read mail about:

  • As a California Assemblyman, Scott Baugh was indicted for more than 20 criminal charges, including 4 felonies, for campaign finance fraud and perjury. He then tried to pass legislation that would have made it more difficult to prosecute crimes like he was accused of. When Baugh was Chair of the Orange County Republican Party, twelve of his Republican operatives were charged on felony voter fraud claims.

  • Dave has a plan to make housing more affordable, hold corporations accountable for price gouging, and bring down the cost of groceries and gas, while strengthening Social Security and Medicare. In the State Senate, Dave has opposed every tax increase on Orange County families and sought to expand economic opportunity. That’s why he’s endorsed by Orange County organized labor.

Voters registered without a party preference, especially those under the age of 45 should see streaming and digital ads and read mail about:

  • Scott Baugh has said that he is 100% behind Donald Trump, and refused to say that the 2020 election was legitimate. Scott Baugh stands with the MAGA extremists behind Project 2025, which would eliminate the independence of the Department of Justice so Trump would have total control and unchecked legal power to retaliate against his enemies. Baugh refused to condemn the violent MAGA insurrection on our Democracy on January 6th and called the recent criminal conviction of Trump – a unanimous verdict from 12 average citizens –  “politically motivated.”

Now that ballots have dropped, Democratic voters in Irvine, Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach and voters registered without party preference – especially those who support Democrats, but who are less likely vote, voters between the ages of 18 – 45 in the UC Irvine area, men registered without party preference, women between the ages of 18 – 45, AAPI women, college educated voters – need to have vote planning conversations on doors and see literature that:

  • Dave Min defended abortion rights as a champion of California’s successful Proposition 1 in 2022, which amended the Constitution of California to explicitly guarantee access to abortion and contraception. Dave Min has a 100% rating from Planned Parenthood.

  • Dave Min fought to protect our families from gun violence by ending gun sales on all state owned property.

  • Dave Min is standing up to the local MAGA politicians who have tried to hijack our local school boards and city councils. He has spoken forcefully against anti-LGBTQ+ hate, book bans, voter suppression efforts, and privatizing the public library in Huntington Beach, and has authored legislation and initiated investigations to crack down on political corruption in Orange County.

  • Scott Baugh is yet another MAGA extremist, who is in lock step with the far right members in his party. He is for a federal abortion ban without exceptions, is a champion for the NRA, and fought to make it easier for white collar criminals like himself to exploit working families.
