UFCW Endorses Dave Min For Congress
IRVINE, CA — Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union Local 324 announced their endorsement of Dave Min for Congress, adding to a diverse coalition which includes labor and national advocacy groups, as well as local, statewide and federal elected officials. UFCW Local 324 joins International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 47, International Brotherhood of Teamsters Joint Council 42 and International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) District Council 36–as well as the statewide arm of SEIU and the California Federation of Teachers–in supporting State Senator Dave Min for US Congress.
“Throughout his career, Dave Min has been a champion for working families,” said Andrea Zinder, President of UFCW 324. “As State Senator, he has consistently stood with our members, whether it’s supporting them in our organizing actions or by voting for legislation to improve the livelihood and dignity of workers in our grocery stores, our pharmacies, or elsewhere. He has spent his life in public service advocating for a fair economy, starting out at the SEC to hold Wall Street accountable and pushing for family-first economic policies in the U.S. Senate and while at the Center for American Progress. We need Dave’s voice in Congress and we’re thrilled to support him.”
UFCW Local 324 represents more than 22,000 workers in Orange County and parts of Los Angeles County, pulling from a number of industries: grocery, retail, drug store, banking, food processing, packaging, and cannabis industries. As a State Senator, Dave Min has stood with members of UFCW Local 324 on the picket line, as they came together to advocate for better wages, hours and working conditions.
While approaching $1 million raised, Min has consolidated support from local, state, and national endorsers. Min entered the race with support from current CA-47 Representative, Katie Porter. In recent months, Min has announced the endorsements of California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Attorney General Rob Bonta, State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Insurance Commissioner Ricard Lara, Superintendent of Public Schools Tony Thurmond, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus’s political leadership ASPIRE PAC, more than 50 local Orange County government officials, and more than 60 state legislators. A full endorsement list is available here.
Senator Min, the only Korean-American in the state legislature, serves as Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee and as Senate Vice Chair of the Asian and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus. Min has proven himself an incredibly effective legislative leader in the Senate, authoring 16 bills signed into law by the Governor, including leading legislation on hate crimes, gun violence prevention, family safety, and women’s reproductive rights. In the wake of the 2021 Huntington Beach Oil Spill, he stood up to the oil industry and led efforts to end offshore drilling. Min serves as Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee and as Senate Vice Chair of the Asian and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus. He previously chaired the Senate Cybersecurity Select Committee.
Before entering the State Senate, Min was a law professor at UC Irvine, where he taught and researched in the area of business law. He resides with his wife Jane Stoever, a UC Irvine law professor who specializes in domestic violence and family law, and their three children in Irvine. Dave is a native Californian, a product of California public schools who graduated from the Wharton School and Harvard Law School, and an Eagle Scout.
