Dave Min Raises Over $400,000 In Second Quarter
IRVINE, CA — Today, State Senator Dave Min reported raising over $400,000 from April 1 to June 30 for his campaign for Congress in California’s 47th Congressional District. This is the second quarter of impressive fundraising for Dave Min, whose coalition of support includes Congresswoman Katie Porter, SEIU California, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus’s political leadership ASPIRE PAC, and more than 125 local and state elected officials. California’s 47th is an open Congressional District in Orange County that is being vacated by Rep. Porter, who is running for U.S. Senate. California’s 47th is being heavily targeted by Republicans–Rep. Richard Hudson, the chair of the NRCC this cycle, has called the district “probably our best pickup opportunity in the country.” The announcement comes a few weeks after a Public Policy Polling poll showed Min with a commanding lead against his likely Republican opponent in the 2024 General Election.
“With Republicans calling their shot, California’s 47th needs a candidate who knows how to run a strong campaign and has a track record of winning here in a tough district,” said Orrin Evans, senior advisor to the Dave Min for Congress campaign. “Working families in Orange County know that Dave Min represents something different than the old tired politics of talking out of both sides of your mouth. Dave Min is a fighter who wins elections and delivers on his promises. We’re so thankful for the tremendous support we’ve received since this campaign kicked off in January, and we’re excited about the grassroots movement we’re building that is going to keep this seat Blue.”
It’s important to consider the source of the funding as well. Notably, Min’s fundraising to date includes no money from corporate PACs and no loans from the candidate. Min has also signed the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge, and his list of donors reflects those commitments.
Considering fundraising and endorsements in tandem tells a compelling story about Dave Min’s general election viability. While approaching $1 million raised, he’s also consolidated support from local, state, and national endorsers. In recent weeks, Min has announced endorsements from the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the California Federation of Teachers (CFT), the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 47, UFCW Local 324, Teamsters Joint Council 42, California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Attorney General Rob Bonta, State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus’s political leadership ASPIRE PAC, more than 50 local Orange County government officials, and more than 60 state legislators. A full endorsement list is available here.
Dave Min is the Democrats’ most viable candidate in the race, having entered the contest with the endorsement of the outgoing incumbent Katie Porter. Min currently represents over 80% of the 47th Congressional District in the State Senate, and won CA-47 during that election by over 5% in 2020, a tough year for Orange County Democrats. Just after the end of 2023’s first quarter, former Congressman Harley Rouda ended his bid for the 47th, leaving Min as the only Democrat in the race with previous campaign, legislative or federal policy experience.
Senator Min, the only Korean-American in the state legislature, serves as Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee and as Senate Vice Chair of the Asian and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus. Min has proven himself an incredibly effective legislative leader in the Senate, authoring 16 bills signed into law by the Governor, including leading legislation on hate crimes, gun violence prevention, family safety, and women’s reproductive rights. In the wake of the 2021 Huntington Beach Oil Spill, he stood up to the oil industry and led efforts to end offshore drilling. Min serves as Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee and as Senate Vice Chair of the Asian and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus. He previously chaired the Senate Cybersecurity Select Committee.
Before entering the State Senate, Min was a law professor at UC Irvine, where he taught and researched in the area of business law. He resides with his wife Jane Stoever, a UC Irvine law professor who specializes in domestic violence and family law, and their three children in Irvine. Dave is a native Californian, a product of California public schools who graduated from the Wharton School and Harvard Law School, and an Eagle Scout.
