Dave Min Backs Proposition 47 Reform Initiative

IRVINE, CA — Today, State Senator Dave Min, the Democratic nominee for California’s 47th Congressional District in Orange County, announced his endorsement of the Proposition 47 reform ballot initiative, which was certified for the ballot yesterday evening by Secretary of State Shirley Weber. This initiative, which will be named the “Allows Felony Charges And Increases Sentences For Certain Drug And Theft Crimes,”would reform and repeal elements of Proposition 47, a 2014 ballot measure passed by the voters that reclassified certain non-violent felony crimes, including those related to theft, burglary and drug possession, as misdemeanors.

Min’s support for this initiative was lauded by leading law enforcement organizations.

“Dave Min has been a trusted partner with Police Officers and law enforcement in fighting crime and improving public safety across California and Orange County. We stand with him in his support for fixing Proposition 47 and addressing the problem of retail theft in this state.”

  • Craig Lally, President of the California Coalition of Law Enforcement Agents.

“The Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs appreciate Dave Min’s leadership in supporting law enforcement and working toward keeping our communities safer from crime, and we strongly support him in trying to fix Proposition 47.”

  • Juan Viramontes, President of the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs

During his four years in the California State Senate, Dave Min has been a strong supporter of law enforcement and their efforts to keep California’s families and businesses safe. His steadfast support has been reciprocated by law enforcement agencies in the state, who have made Senator Min their unanimous choice in the race for California’s 47th Congressional District. Min is endorsed by the Police Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), the California Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police (CA FOP), the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL), and the Association of Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS).

“While well intentioned, Proposition 47 has resulted in a wave of unintended consequences that have plagued our communities with a dramatic rise in retail theft and smash-and-grab robberies,” said Senator Min. “We need to fix the problems with Prop 47 and the District Attorneys’ measure will help do that. Throughout my time in the State Senate I have been proud to stand with law enforcement, and I will be standing with them in supporting this measure in November.”

Min has been a friend of law enforcement r throughout his tenure in the State Senate. He’s brought home nearly $1 million in funding for the Irvine Police Department, and authored legislation to increase safety on public transit.

Dave Min is running against career politician Scott Baugh. As a California Assemblyman, Scott Baugh was indicted for more than 20 criminal charges, including 4 felonies, for campaign finance fraud and perjury. He then tried to pass legislation to make his crimes legal under California law. When Baugh was Chair of the Orange County Republican Party, twelve of his Republican staffers were charged on felony voter fraud claims. Baugh is not just mirroring Donald Trump on felony counts, but has also parroted his extreme MAGA agenda, calling for a blanket ban on abortions starting at conception, with no exceptions for rape, incest, or health of the pregnant woman, and was one of the first Republican politicians to call the criminal convictions of Donald Trump a “political persecution.”
