Attorney General Rob Bonta Endorses Dave Min For Congress
California’s Top Cop Endorses Min Following Wave Of Local Officials & Rep. Katie Porter’s Announcements of Support
IRVINE, CA —Today, on the heels of over 50 local Orange County local elected officials endorsing State Senator Dave to replace Congresswoman Katie Porter in California’s 47th Congressional District, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, the state’s top law enforcement officer, endorsed the former UC Irvine Law Professor for Congress. Rep. Porter, is vacating the seat to run for U.S. Senate and has thrown her full support behind Min.
“As our country continues to suffer from the scourge of gun violence, I am proud to endorse State Senator Min for Congress,” said California Attorney General Bonta. “Dave ended gun shows on state property and fairgrounds, an important step in our fight for safer neighborhoods and communities. He has stood with law enforcement, delivered critical funding during the pandemic to our first responders, and as the father of three young children understands the importance of working collaboratively to build healthy, resilient communities. California needs him in Congress.”
Attorney General Rob Bonta is the 34th Attorney General of the State of California. Under his leadership, the Department of Justice has secured arrests and convictions of sex traffickers, gun smugglers, and those who prey upon children. He has worked to build stronger relationships between communities and law enforcement and supported efforts to enhance law enforcement’s ability to respond, investigate, and prosecute serious offenses. In the State Assembly, Bonta enacted nation-leading reforms to inject more justice and fairness into government and institutions.
As the People's Attorney, Bonta sees seeking accountability from those who abuse their power and harm others as one of the most important functions of the job. In elected office, Bonta has taken on powerful interests and advanced systemic change — pursuing corporate accountability, standing up for workers, punishing big polluters, and fighting racial injustice. He has led statewide fights for racial, economic, and environmental justice and worked to further the rights of immigrant families, renters, and working Californians.
Senator Min, the only Korean-American in the state legislature has proven himself an incredibly effective legislative leader in the Senate, authoring 16 bills signed into law by the Governor, including leading legislation on hate crimes, gun violence prevention, family safety, and women’s reproductive rights. In the wake of the 2021 Huntington Beach Oil Spill, he stood up to the oil industry and led efforts to end offshore drilling. Min serves as Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee and as Senate Vice Chair of the Asian and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus. He previously chaired the Senate Cybersecurity Select Committee.
Before entering the State Senate, Min was a law professor at UC Irvine, where he taught and researched in the area of business law. He resides with his wife Jane, a UC Irvine law professor who specializes in domestic violence and family law, and their three children in Irvine. Dave is a native Californian, a product of California public schools who graduated from the Wharton School and Harvard Law School, and an Eagle Scout.
California’s 47th is an open Congressional District in Orange County that includes the Cities of Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Newport Beach, and Seal Beach, and portions of Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, and Laguna Woods. Incumbent Katie Porter is vacating the seat to run for U.S. Senate. In 2022, Porter defeated former Assemblymember Republican Scott Baugh by 3.44% in this “toss-up” district. State Senator Dave Min currently represents over 80% of Congressional District 47 in Sacramento. In 2020, Min received over 158,000 votes within CA-47, defeating incumbent John Moorlach by 4.3%. 19% of the registered voters in CA-47 are of Asian and Pacific Islander descent, including one of the largest Korean-American populations in the country.
