Congresswoman Katie Porter Endorses Dave Min For State Senate
Orange County, Calif. — TODAY, UC Irvine Law Professor Dave Min, who is running in California’s State Senate District 37 against Trump supporter John Moorlach, announced his endorsement by United States Congressional Representative Katie Porter, who represents California’s 45th Congressional District in the heart of Orange County. CA45 composes close to 60% of Senate District 37, sharing the communities of Irvine, Anaheim, Orange, Lake Forest, and Tustin. Congressmember Porter, a colleague of Prof. Min and his wife Jane Stoever at UC Irvine, issued the following remarks:
I have known Dave Min and his wife Jane for over a decade. I first became aware of Dave’s work on economic fairness when he was a policy director at the Center for American Progress, and I am so impressed with the incredible work Jane does on behalf of domestic violence survivors as Director of UC Irvine’s Initiative to End Family Violence. Dave and Jane are terrific neighbors, talented colleagues, and powerful advocates for our community.
Dave has spent his career focusing on how to make our economy stable and vibrant. From the Securities and Exchange Commission to the Senate Banking Committee to the halls of academia, Dave has always been a strong and independent voice for economic fairness and opportunity for working families.
Over the last year in Congress, I have fought for Orange County families and to hold Wall Street and big corporations accountable. While we have accomplished much, the Trump Administration continues to stand in the way of our progress. President Trump puts tax relief to billionaires and big businesses ahead of middle class Californians and he puts the corporate special interests of pollution over our planet and our health.
As we face a global pandemic and its ever-increasing challenges, it’s clear that we need more voices like Dave’s to provide thoughtful leadership, research-based policy expertise, and a long-term vision for our future. To address the challenges of economic inequality, healthcare, women’s rights, climate change, and gun violence, California must continue to lead as a state while I continue our fight in D.C. Dave will be a strong partner to advance our values in the California State Senate. He has the experience and the commitment to our community to help create a better future for Orange County. I wholeheartedly endorse his campaign for California State Senate and encourage you to support him.
“I am truly humbled by Congresswoman Porter’s endorsement and thankful for her tireless efforts on behalf of Orange County families,” said Min. “In a short period of time, Rep. Porter has made a name for herself by consistently fighting for what is right over what is easy. I hope to follow her great example of hard work and integrity, and I look forward to collaborating with her as a partner in Sacramento.”
David Min is a University of California Irvine Law Professor, father of three, and a former economic policy staffer in the United States Senate and for the Center for American Progress. Min began his legal career at the Securities and Exchange Commission to protect the retirement security of seniors, turning down high paying jobs to serve the public interest. He is a leading expert on banking and housing policy.
California State Senate District 37 is located in Orange County and includes the communities of Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Foothill Ranch, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Laguna Woods, Newport Beach, Orange, Tustin, and Villa Park and is ranked by political handicappers as a “toss up.” The incumbent career politician John Moorlach, an unwavering Trump supporter and anti-vaccination proponent, was soundly rejected by a majority of voters in the March 3, 2020 primary election.
