Dave Min To Face Trump Supporter John Moorlach in CA Senate District 37 General Election
Orange County, Calif. — TODAY, following the latest report from the Orange County Registrar of Voters, UC Irvine Law Professor Dave Min issued the following statement:
“I am honored to have earned the support of so many voters in Senate District 37. While there are still votes to be counted, these results speak loudly: Orange County families are looking to elect a State Senator who represents their values, and rejecting the politics of Donald Trump.” said Dave Min. “I want to thank our many supporters. This campaign has never been about one person, it’s been about a community of voices coming together to try to defend and restore the American Dream. We could not have come this far without ALL of us working together. I also want to thank Costa Mesa Mayor Katrina Foley for running a spirited race. I look forward to working with her to unseat the incumbent John Moorlach, whose extreme hyper-partisanship, “A” rating from the NRA, denial of climate change, and 100% voting record against women’s rights, is so out of touch with the values of Orange County families.”
With the OC Registrar of Voters latest canvass putting Min at 27.3%, and Foley at 24.5%, Min’s margin of victory is sizable enough that it is clear he will emerge as the top Democrat in this race and advance to the general election to face the Republican incumbent, John Moorlach. It is notable that well over 50% of voters in this primary election have voted against Sen. Moorlach’s extremism.
David Min is a University of California Irvine Law Professor, father of three, and a former economic policy staffer in the United States Senate and for the Center for American Progress. Min began his legal career at the Securities and Exchange Commission to protect the retirement security of seniors, turning down high paying jobs to serve the public interest. He is a leading expert on banking and housing policy.
California State Senate District 37 is located in Orange County and includes the communities of Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Foothill Ranch, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Laguna Woods, Newport Beach, Orange, Tustin, and Villa Park and is ranked by political handicappers as a “toss up.”
